Acting in English in Paris is a three-year intensive program available to students of all backgrounds and levels of experience who would like to study drama and film in Paris in the English language. Knowledge of French is not required – the entire curriculum is offered in English.
The program follows the unique Cours Florent performance methodologies, the result of 60 years of research and experience. The core of the program centers around rigorous ‘Interpretation Classes’ where students learn fundamental and advanced skills for both stage and film acting. These can be supplemented by ‘Technical Classes’ of the student’s choosing –skill-specific explorations offering the opportunity for more in-depth investigation of foundational and specialized competencies such as vocal technique, body work, improvisation, and writing. Students are also offered the opportunity to attend specially arranged conferences, discussions and meetings with theater and film professionals. They can participate in a wide range of special events organized for the international student community (ex : Cultural evening, « Galette des rois » etc).
Cours Florent additionally proposes French language classes, designed to introduce students to the French language in a theatrical setting with specially developed techniques. Students who make significant progress with French have the option later of participating in French acting classes in addition to their classes in English.
Once students advance to the second year of the program, they have the opportunity to specialize either in “Stage and Screen” (dividing their time between stage acting and camera technique) or to focus primarily on live Theater. From the second year on, students have regular public performances of their work, and the third year focuses almost exclusively on production, with new performances every six to eight weeks, creating the experience of a professional season. Third year students also participate in student-generated, self-guided projects to learn all aspects of production.
Candidates who are currently Paris residents, or can arrange to visit the French capital for one week can participate in a one-week intensive workshop to experience the Cours Florent approach and methodology in a vibrant and exciting environment. The workshop can serve as their audition for the full program.
For international students desiring to enroll but who are unable to come to Paris for a workshop or in-person audition, we have a specific application procedure: In order to apply, those students must send their applications by email. The application will be followed by an online interview with the artistic and teaching staff of Cours Florent.
